Hi ! I’m Dimitris Despiniadis.
I am a Mountain Leader (trained in the UK and Greece) and a Wilderness First Responder (trained in Norway by NOLS).
I was born in Thessaloniki, Greece.
From a young age I had an unconditional love for the natural world and Being Outside in the mountains has been a big part of my lifestyle ever since. My passion for travel and exploration brought me to special places with exceptional ethnological interest, such as the Amazon rainforest, the Tibetan plateau and the holy rivers of India.
During the last 20 years I planned and led numerous trekking expeditions ( some exploratory ) in Chile, Peru, Ecuador, Argentina, Nepal, India, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Scotland, Wales, Spain, France, Jordan and my home country (Greece).
I particularly love introducing people to the outdoors and helping them have fun and achieve their goals in the mountains by arranging unique custom-made itineraries that build upon previous experience.
I am a SALEWA Greece sponsored athlete for the last 6 years and prior to that used to be for The North Face for 3,5 years.
Recent personal trips that stand out are:
- the Unsupported crossing of Iceland (~600km) from the northernmost to the southernmost tip in 15 days (August 2017)
- the crossing of Jordan from the Syrian to the Saudi Arabian border (~650km)in 16 days (March 2018)
- the solo traverse of the Spanish Pyrenees (820km) from the Atlantic to the Mediterranean Sea in 23 days (September 2021).
I also enjoy mountaineering, mountain biking, snowshoeing, swimming, kayaking and have participated in many demanding Ultra- trail competitions in my home country and abroad, such as Tor des Geants ( 330 Km, 24000 D+ ) in the Italian Alps (happened to be the 1st Greek to finish the race).
Nowadays, when not traveling, you will probably find me in Litochoro, the charming little town at the foot of the legendary mount Olympus, where I play and guide.
I speak Greek, English and Spanish.
I am constantly dreaming up and planning new exciting trips that I want to share with guests … like you ! 🙂
